What's a make-up blog without the make-up, right? I figured that after that lengthy introduction of me, myself and I, that I might as well introduce you to some of my make-up. I took pictures of some of my FAVORITE items in my collection and I also took pictures of some of the not-so-favorite items as well. I think it is important to emphasize that sometimes what works for one person, or what may look nice to buy/try on, may not always be for you! Don't get me wrong, I am a FIRM believer in using anything you buy, I just have certain items that I like way more than others. It's a trial and error process, I guess. One thing I tell my friends is that any woman can wear any kind of make-up; it is simply all about the application! If you learn how to apply your make-up in a way that works for you- then you will be straight, with anything that you buy.
Anyway- I am going to start with the two items I brought today from ULTA (p.s., I love Ulta! I actually just heard about this make-up heaven like last year! This store has everything and at all different prices. I personally find it really affordable!).
I am not sure how many of you all are fanatical about your make-up. Me personally, I am always looking at YouTube tutorials. I have learned so much about make-up application and products thanks to some of the talented Guru's that I religiously watch. One of my favorite guru's at the moment is Dulce Candy: DulceCandy87. I find her tutorials to be really easy to follow and she has never steered me wrong in cosmetic products. From watching her videos I learned about NYX Cosmetics. Let me tell you, I am a recent graduate of college, so if you think I have money like that, you are sadly mistaken! I love MAC- when I can afford it, but I JUMP on the opportunity to purchase cheap make-up. NYX is really affordable make-up and it looks as good on your face as it does on the website, I promise. I would definitely encourage you to check out the website (www.nyxcosmetics.com); sometimes they even have specials where they take down some of their products to like $1.50! (but that lasts all of 2.5 seconds so be quick with your purchases when those kind of sales are on!).
Anyway, I purchased the NYX Super FAT liquid marker (It was like $9.99). It is a liquid eyeliner. I usually go for the clay based eyeliners that you apply with a brush- but I miss the easy application of liquid eyeliner and am anxious to see how it looks (I will keep you posted!).
I also bought some mint nail polish by China Glaze (those of you who know Dulce Candy from her blog post, know that she swears by mint nail polish!). The exact color is "867, Re-fresh Mint" and after trying it on, I LOVE IT! I think this color looks great on sun-kissed skin tones and I think it is a beautiful/vibrant summer color!
Okay- Now I am going to show you some of my make-up collection!
The first photo is some of my FAVORITE eyeshadows! In this picture, I have everything: MAC, Elf, Ulta, L.A. Looks, Maybelline, and NYX. Right up front, The pallet with the mirror is my most recent eyeshadow purchase! This is another referral by Dulce Candy- it is the Mysterious Brown Eye pallet. Now, my eyes are green- but I fell in love with the colors in this pallet because I feel that it is rare that you get such an array of colors in a pallet that small. I have used it numerous times already and love the way the colors look! I feel like all the eyeshadow comes off really smooth!
The second picture is my favorite lipsticks. I have developed a fetish lately for nudes and reds. Word of advice: BE CAREFUL with nude color lipsticks. They are cute when you get the right color- don't get a nude color that is too nude and looks like concealer! And if you do make that mistake (as I have!), just wear it with a pink lip gloss or a gloss that will add a little bit of color to counter the nudeness! I love nudes because I feel like there is something so sexy about a really bold smokey eye with a nude color. Not only does it draw more attention to your eye, it just MAKES SENSE, you know?
I also love shades of red because they are so BOLD. My mother always told me that not every woman can wear red; not to discredit my mother, but I disagree. You know how they say every woman has that one simple black dress that she can wear the HELL out of? I think the same thing applies to red lipstick- there are a plethora of shades ladies, pick a shade you think is good for you and OWN IT!
(Let me know if you want information on the eyeshadow or lipstick, I just don't want this blog to be to ridiculous in length!)
I swear by MAC make-up. If I had the money, I would buy it all! As you can see by the gapping hole in both of these products, I wear them daily. I use the bronzer on my temples and underneath my cheek bones (to add definition and to appear more sun-kissed) and I use the shimmer blush (called, Soft and Gentle) as a sheer but shimmery shine to my actual cheek bone. The combination of these two products I learned from an actual MAC make-up artist I used to know. I think it is a great summer look and both of these products are really light on the skin (I HATE feeling like my make-up is caked on, especially in the summer!).
Now, I am going to show you all a picture of my not-so-favorites:
L.A. Colors Shimmering eyeshadow. Let me just say, I wear these regularly and that I love they way they look! My only gripe with this shadow is that it is so finely grained that the shadow gets EVERYWHERE. It is difficult to apply because the make-up is so hard to maneuver without getting those freaking sparkles all over your face and wherever you are applying your make-up at. Also, when you open the shadow, there is a pitiful brush that does not work at all and, in my opinion, adds to the mess of the shadow. I threw out all the brushes inside each of these shadows and what I have done to alleviate the mess is that I will dip some of the shadow in the cap of the product and take very, very, very small amounts when applying. I usually use these shadows for a highlight.
Thats about it- Let me know what you think about this!
xoxo,
Kelli!
